Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has begun exports of the Grand Vitara SUV, with the first shipment sent to Latin America from the Kamarajar port.

The leading Indian carmaker aims to export the Grand Vitara to more than 60 countries across Latin America, Africa, Middle East, ASEAN and neighbouring regions, a press release from the company stated.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, MSIL said expanding the company’s product portfolio for exports has been one of its key pillars of success. “By adding Grand Vitara, we now export a range of 17 vehicles,” he said.

The Grand Vitara was unveiled in July 2022 and has received “overwhelming response in the domestic market”, the MD & CEO said, adding he is confident that the India-manufactured SUV will meet with similar success in overseas markets as well.

By adding Grand Vitara, the company now exports a range of 17 vehicles, he added. In CY 2022, Maruti Suzuki registered an export of over 2.6 lakh vehicles.

With the Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga and XL6, along with the newly introduced Jimny and the Fronx, the company aims to get back its earlier peak of 50% market share in India while also becoming the leading SUV player by the end of FY24.
