Schwing Stetter India has signed an MoU with Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) to offer a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in manufacturing engineering for selected employees.

This year, over 25 employees with a diploma will be enrolled in this tailor-made academic programme, and they will receive a 50% sponsorship over the next 3.5 years from the company to complete the seven-semester degree course.

VIT will also facilitate faculty visits to Schwing Stetter India's Global Manufacturing Hub, located in Cheyyar, to conduct classes. The employees will spend two weeks at VIT to get campus exposure and engage with other students through projects. The institute will provide the needed support to employees and quality higher education on par with international standards.

V G Sakthikumar, CMD, Schwing Stetter India, said that as the manufacturing industry scales, the opportunity to learn, understand and innovate becomes imperative for the young workforce to grow in their career ladder.

However, some of them are restricted to learning due to financial constraints. The objective of this initiative is to bridge the skill gap and provide them an opportunity to contribute more, he added.

“Our mutual goal is to truly understand the needs of talented workers from rural background and uplift their unique strengths to benefit the company and the nation,” Sakthikumar added.

Dr G Viswanthan, Chancellor, VIT, stated that the partnership highlights VIT's dedication to nurturing collaborations and cultivating strong connections between academia and industry, ultimately fuelling innovation and equipping the workforce with specialised expertise.

“By creating such partnerships, we can collectively shape a more dynamic and skilled workforce, capable of meeting the ever-evolving demands of the modern world,” he added.
