The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) hosted the 2nd edition of the International Conference on Sustainable Circularity (ICSC) as part of its Circularity initiative on the closing day of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. Themed 'Towards Nature Positive Pathway: Embracing Circular Economies with Low Carbon Strategies,' the conference brought together industry stakeholders and government representatives to explore pathways towards achieving an automotive circular economy in India.

The event kicked off with the unveiling of the Context Paper titled 'Gas Based Mobility: Fuelling India’s Economy' by Arvind Nautiyal, Joint Secretary & Member Secretary, Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), and other dignitaries.

Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM, welcomed the audience, stating, 'SIAM is dedicated to building the nation responsibly and contributing to India's ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Through the Circularity initiative, we are steadfast in our commitment to reducing the auto industry's carbon footprint and cultivating a sustainable future.'

The inaugural session emphasised 'Vision for Fostering Nature Positive Circularity Principles in Automotive Sector: Policy & Regulatory Framework,' with Arvind Nautiyal underscoring the importance of phasing out old vehicles, incentives for scrapping, and hazardous waste management dovetailed into material circularity policies.

The technical sessions delved into topics such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in ELV Recycling, Recycling Resources for a Sustainable Future, and Innovative ELV Recycling for Sustainability. Experts discussed practical measures, including sustainable vehicle washing solutions, handling and management policies for End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs), and innovative recycling methods.

The conference concluded with a summary of innovative ELV recycling methods, resource conservation, and fostering green growth, showcasing SIAM's commitment to advancing circularity in the automotive sector for a sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

The 2nd edition of ICSC proved to be a success, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, best practices, and strategies, reinforcing SIAM's leadership in promoting circularity in India's automotive industry. The event was complemented by SIAM's Circularity Pavilion at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, further highlighting the industry's dedication to sustainability.
