Start-up Matter Claims To Have Made Liquid-cooled EV Battery Pack

The company has not revealed whether it will be supplying the same to OEMs or not. The announcement has come at a time when India is witnessing EVs catching fire one after another.

Matter, a start-up in electric vehicle technology, claims to have developed India's first liquid-cooled battery pack. Dubbed Matter Energy 1.0, the start-up noted that the battery pack can be used in two-wheelers to enhance safety. The announcement has come at a time when India is witnessing EVs catching fire one after another.

The Ahmedabad-based start-up said it has embedded the battery pack with an integrated thermal management system and a smart battery management system. The start-up claims to have developed the battery pack in-house. The battery casing is manufactured using a lightweight metal which is thermally conductive as well.

Matter has not revealed its plans for the battery pack. The company says it has prioritised the safety, battery life, and performance of the liquid-cooled battery pack.

Mohal Lalbhai, Founder and CEO, Matter, said, 'As the safety and performance of battery-powered electric vehicles are integral to their viability and acceptability, Matter has developed a highly purpose-built battery pack that will meet the needs of the E2w [electric two-wheeler] industry. Matter Energy 1.0, a breakthrough futuristic battery pack is fully charged and ready to power the EV 2W landscape in India.'

The global electric vehicle battery market, as per Fortune Business Insights, is projected to grow from $27.30 billion in 2021 to $154.90 billion in 2028 at a CAGR of 28.1%. The two-and three-wheeler segment is leading the adoption of EVs in India.
