Akasa Air has announced the graduation of its first batch of two pilots - First Officers Shantanu Patil and First Officer Rahul Sinha, who completed their command upgrade training and graduated to become pilots in command. Graduating from First Officers to Captains marks a significant milestone in their careers.

Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO at Akasa Air, said the first batch of pilots who have successfully transitioned to the role of Captains through the airline’s internal upgrade programme were the “first of many more to come.”

Dube said that over the next 12 months, Akasa Air plans to upgrade between 40 – 50 additional Captains. “Our goal is to build an aviation workforce fit for the future - by offering sustainable, open and inclusive opportunities for anybody looking for a career in the industry.”

In a release, the airline said its pilot training programme featured a comprehensive curriculum that included mentoring and professional guidance.

Learning and development are the cornerstones of Akasa’s employee-centric culture, and the carrier invested in the Akasa Air Learning Academy at Gurgaon even before it began operations in August 2022.

Akasa Air has placed firm orders for 76 Boeing 737 MAX and currently has taken delivery of 20 aircraft.
