Celebrating 12 years of production of its debutante product in India, the German carmaker, Volkswagen India, on Monday launched the Polo Legend Edition as a limited production vehicle.

Based on the GT TSI variant, the special edition hatch gets powered by a 1.0L TSI engine mated to a 6-speed automatic torque converter and puts out 110 PS of power and 175 Nm torque.

Further to distinguish itself from the regular model, the car features a’ Legend’ title on the fender and boot badge along with side body graphics, black trunk garnish and black roof foil.

The German manufacturer started with the production of the Polo at its Chakan plant in Pune in 2009, making it the first car from the company to be locally produced in India.

Launched first in 2010, the company claims a customer base of 300,000 with the hatch. Additionally, with dual airbags, it also received a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating later in 2014.

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, 'From its market introduction till date, the Volkswagen Polo has enjoyed the privilege of being the first car to a family, an enthusiast’s dream and the preferred choice for a mother owing to its timeless and sporty design, safety, fun-to-drive experience and strong build quality.'
