Swedish carmaker Volvo India on Tuesday launched its first EV offering for India, XC 40 Recharge at INR 55.9 lakh ex-showroom India for the P8 trim level.

With bookings for the vehicle commencing from June 27, 2022 at INR 50,000, the company confirmed that the deliveries will be from October this year.

Besides the EV, the company also introduced an exclusive programme for XC40 Recharge customers called ‘Tre Kronor Experience’.

According to a press release from the company, Tre-Kronor denotes the three crowns of Swedish luxury and will offer a host of unique luxury and personalized experiences.

To be locally assembled at the company’s Hoskote facility in Bangalore, the e-SUV is only offered with the twin motor setup placed at each axel with a total output of 408hp and 660Nm of torque.

In terms of powertrain, the vehicle gets its energy from a 78kWh lithium-ion battery pack placed on the floorboard.

The company claims that on a single charge, the EV can cover up to 418 kms (WLTP range), and with a 150kW DC fast charging, the EV can be topped up from 10% to 80% in 33 minutes. On a more easily accessible 50kW fast charger, Volvo says the XC40 Recharge can charge 100 percent in about 2.5 hours.

Retaining the brand identity, the vehicle features the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ DRL at the front with a restyled bumper design over the ICE XC 40 along with a blanked-out grille and new dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels. Moreover, the vehicle has a boot capacity of 419 litres, a bit lower than the ICE counterpart but the EV adds 31 litres of additional front boot space.

In terms of available tech features, it comes with one pedal drive option and built-in Google apps, including Google Assistant, Google Play, Google Maps, and Volvo Car Apps. It also gets 600 W 13 speakers Harmon Kardon Premium Sound System, wireless mobile charger and Advanced Air Purifier System with PM 2.5 sensor.

The company being the pioneers on the safety front has fitted the EV with a 360-degree camera, blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, lane keeping aid, collision mitigation support for both front and rear, parking assistance sensors for the front, side and rear and six airbags.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said, “The launch of the XC40 Recharge and its assembly at our Bangalore plant further reinforces Volvo Car’s long term vision and commitment to India and the Indian consumer.”

“Also, the direct online sales by the company demonstrates our commitment towards building direct relationship with our customers and offer them a hassle-free buying experience,” he added.
