In another surprising shift in the electric two-wheeler (E2W) registration figures, Ola Electric has emerged as the top electric vehicle brand in India in September 2022. The Bhavesh Aggarwal-led start-up registered 9,634 electric scooters during the month. It had only registered 3,440 electric scooters in August 2022.
'The current trends support the fact that electric scooter sales will break the roof with the multi-fold rise in sales,' Saurav Kumar, MD, Protiviti Member Firm For India, recently told Mobility Outlook. He said, 'The time isn't far when electric scooters will become a prominent presence.'
With 8,279 registrations in September 2022, Okinawa has maintained its second position in the E2W space. However, it fell Month-On-Month as the OEM had registered 8,559 E2Ws in August 2022. Similarly, Hero Electric slipped to the third position in the E2W space. Against 10,481 electric scooters it had registered in August 2022, the OEM managed to notch only 8,017 units in September 2022.

Ather Energy, another start-up in the E2W space, posted good growth as it registered 6,165 E2Ws in September 2022. The Hero MotoCorp-backed start-up had only registered 5,296 E2Ws in August 2022.
Ampere Vehicles has maintained its registration run of over 6,000 E2W in September 2022. It registered 6,189 E2Ws in September 2022, as against 6,399 in August 2022. Jitendra EV, Revolt, Being India Energy, and Pur Energy's registration numbers fell below the 1,000 mark in September 2022. (See Chart 1)
Traditional ICE OEMs TVS Motors and Bajaj registered 3,940 and 2,591 E2Ws, respectively. The former's registration figures fell by over 2,200 E2Ws against the numbers it had posted in August 2022. On the other hand, sales of Bajaj largely remained unchanged at 2,591 in September 2022, against 2,584 in the previous month.
