In a significant stride towards reinforcing the 'Make in India' initiative, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) proudly inaugurated its new 3rd assembly line at the Vithalapur plant in Gujarat, India. The inauguration adds a substantial production capacity of 6.5 lakh units, reflecting Honda's commitment to local manufacturing and aligning with the government's vision for 'Make in India.'

Tsutsumu Otani, President, Managing Director & CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, highlighted the milestone's importance, stating, 'Today marks a significant milestone as we have inaugurated a new 3rd Assembly Line at our Vithalapur facility in Gujarat. This capacity expansion plan will significantly increase HMSI’s total annual production volumes, serving customers more efficiently with speed.'

Scooter models such as Activa, Dio, Activa 125, and Dio 125, along with a dedicated engine line, contribute to Honda's global manufacturing capacity for the 250cc & above category two-wheelers.

The expansion not only contributes to local employment opportunities in Gujarat but also aligns with Honda's commitment to gender diversity in the workforce. The company plans to increase female representation in the manufacturing area, supported by initiatives such as enhanced infrastructure, including restrooms and creche facilities.

With a focus on being a socially responsible company, Honda's Vithalapur plant has been actively involved in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, covering healthcare, education, road safety, gender equality, and environmental sustainability. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality at the Gujarat plant by 2030, currently utilising 75% electrical power from renewable sources and implementing eco-friendly practices such as rainwater harvesting and zero waste to landfill policies. Honda's expansion and commitment to sustainability signify its integral role in the region's socio-economic development.
