Hyundai Unveils Ioniq 5 For India, Bookings Open

The Ioniq 5 is currently open for booking for INR 100,000, while the car is stated to launch at the upcoming Auto Expo.

Hyundai Motor India has unveiled the Ioniq 5 with bookings opening at INR 100,000. The EV is set to be launched at the upcoming Auto Expo.

The first BEV offering from the company in India, the Ioniq 5 will underpin the group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and has been created on the tenets of modularity, performance, reliability and usability, said the company.

Feature Loaded

The BEV follows the company’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language, and draws its design inspiration from the 45 concept showcased at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto show. 

Dimensionally, it measures 4,635 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,625 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The Ioniq 5 features a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, Bose premium sound system, V2L charging capabilities with two ports along with over 60 connected car features, including remote door lock/unlock, SOS/emergency assistance, real-time traffic information, voice assistant dialling, auto DTC diagnosis and EV remote climate control, among many others.

Notably, the V2L function can supply up to 3.6 kW of power and can power high-power electric equipment using a converter.

Besides, the vehicle will also feature ADAS level 2 capabilities, which will include features such as onward collision warning, forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision warning, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, blind-spot view monitor and safe exit warning. 

Besides, it has smart cruise control with stop & go, lane following assist, high beam assist, leading vehicle departure alert, rear occupant alert, rear cross-traffic collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision- avoidance assist, surround view monitor and rear occupant alert.

Powertrain and Charging

The Ioniq5 is powered by a 72.6 kWh powertrain, constructed of standardised advanced and high density battery cells, while being propelled using 160 kW motor producing 350 Nm. With this set up, Hyundai claims an ARAI certified range of 613 km on a single charge.

For charging, the Ioniq 5 uses a 350 kW DC charger that can charge the vehicle from 10% to 80 % in 18 minutes. Both 800 V ultra-rapid and 400 V rapid chargers can also be used, said the company.
