As part of its initiative to reduce its carbon footprint and further the Government of India’s green mobility initiative, the Indian Air Force (IAF) recently inducted 12 Tata Nexon EVs.

The fleet was inducted into the IAF’s HQ, Vayu Bhawan, by Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff, in the presence of other senior officers and staff. This first batch will be deployed with the IAF units in the Delhi NCR region for performance monitoring and analysis.

“The IAF is planning to enhance the usage of electric vehicles in a progressive manner by procuring e-vehicles against downgraded conventional vehicles,” an IAF spokesperson said.

The IAF is already working to augment its e-vehicles ecosystem and is planning to instal charging infrastructure at various air force bases.

The IAF has already partnered with the Indian Army to procure electric buses and electric cars to ensure a standardised inventory.
