With a commanding 33.3% share in Kia India’s overall sales, the Sonet continues to lead with innovation and style.


Kia Sonet Surpasses 400,000 Sales In Less Than Four Years mobility outlook

The Kia Sonet has marked a significant milestone by exceeding 400,000 sales globally in just under 44 months since its launch, affirming its position as one of the most sought-after compact SUVs in the market. The Sonet, which was Kia's third product launched in India in September 2020, has stirred the compact SUV segment with its advanced features, bold design, and dynamic performance.

Out of the total units sold, 317,754 were purchased within India, while 85,814 were exported, underscoring the Sonet’s appeal in both domestic and international markets. The Sonet has captivated customers with its diverse range of options and features. Approximately 63% of Sonet buyers opted for variants equipped with a sunroof, demonstrating a clear preference for luxury features. In terms of engine selection, while 37% of customers chose the powerful 1.5L diesel engine, a significant 63% preferred petrol engine variants.

The shift towards automatic transmissions is notable, with the 7DCT transmission variant seeing a 37.50% increase in demand since 2020. Automatic transmissions (including 7DCT and 6AT) now make up 28% of Sonet’s sales, while the innovative iMT transmission remains popular, contributing 23% to total sales figures.

In response to evolving market demands, Kia has recently enhanced the entry and mid variants of the Sonet. The introduction of 4 new variants in both diesel and petrol engine options, namely HTE(O) and HTK(O), showcases Kia’s commitment to innovation. These variants offer attractive features such as sunroofs, LED Connected Taillamps, Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC), and Rear Defogger, raising the bar for comfort and style in segment.

Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer of Kia India, expressed his enthusiasm about the milestone, 'The compact SUV segment presents a big opportunity, with many first-time buyers entering the segment directly. Sonet is our second-best innovation, and it has captured their imagination perfectly. It offers them a futuristic, tech-enabled, comfortable mobility solution designed very well and with low ownership costs”.
