Maruti Continues Brisk Run As Car Sales Zoom In Nov

Most carmakers barring Nissan, Toyota, & Force, grew YoY. Passenger vehicle exports also grew YoY

Against 215,626 passenger vehicles sold in November 2021, a total of 276,231 PVs were sold in November 2022. translating into a 28.11% year-on-year (YoY) increase, reported the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Tuesday. 

Maruti Suzuki India remained the top-selling car brand with sales of 132,395 units, up 20.66% YoY from 109,726 units in the same month last year.

However, in terms of the fastest growth, Skoda Auto India emerged tops with 101.87% growth from 2,196 units in November 2021 to 4,433 this year. Clearly, the Volkswagen Group's India 2.0 programme is working well with Skoda having been entrusted with the responsibility of handling the turnaround. 

The Czech brand has had twin successes with the Kushaq and Slavia with VW also doing well with  the Taigun and Virtus from the same platform specifically developed for India.

Hyundai And Kia Register Superb Growth

Kia India came in the second spot in healthy growth where from 14,214 sold last year, it retailed 24,025 units last month, a growth of 69% YoY. Hyundai Motor India, meanwhile, posted 29.73% YoY growth at  48,002 PV units this November, compared to 37,001 PV units sold in the same month last year. 

Incidentally, its exports grew by over 61.48% YoY (see chart 1) while those of Maruti Suzuki'  fell by -8.22% to19,455 units from 21,198 units in November last year.

MG Motor Third Most Growing OEMWith sales of 30,392 units, Mahindra & Mahindra grew 56.19% YoY from 19,458 units in November 2021. The SUV maker's exports also grew from 756 units last year to 1,226 units in November 2022, up 62.17%.

In the case of Honda Cars India, domestic sales increased 29.21% to 7,051 units while exports fell by over -49% from 1,447 units in November 2021 to just 726 units this year. MG Motor India showed 64.41% YoY growth at 4,079 units from 2,481 units sold in November 2021.

Renault Grows, Nissan Hits Tough Roads

Renault retailed 6,325 units, translating into 25.20% growth from 5,052 units sold in November 2021. However, its exports fell by 19.05% YoY. Global ally, Nissan saw a decline of 9.47% YoY from 2,651 units sold in November 2021 to 2,400 units last month. The good news, however, came in the form of exports which were up to 4,346 units from 2,954 units  in November 2021. 

Volkswagen India also registered 13.19% YoY growth by selling 3,570 units in November 2022 against the 3,154 units retailed last year. Its exports also grew by 120.17% YoY.
