Mercedes Benz Recommits Gender Equality Through Various Initiatives

In 2006, Mercedes-Benz was among the first German corporations to set itself a voluntary goal to increase the share of women in senior management positions to 20% by the end of 2020.

Mercedes-Benz aims to have 30% women in senior management by 2030. Interestingly, the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG has almost 40% female, with three women among the eight members.

A press release from the automaker noted that in 2006, the company was among the first German corporations to set itself a voluntary goal to increase the share of women in senior management positions to 20% by the end of 2020.

This share is currently at almost 25%. With women still underrepresented in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) degree programmes and related occupations, the advancement of women remains an important and challenging focus topic, it added.

As a part of its ‘International Women’s Day’ campaign, the carmaker has launched a 60 seconds film. At the centre of the campaign film is Reema Juffali, Saudi Arabia’s first female racing driver, who is competing in the GT World Challenge at the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3. In addition, Adi Ofek, CEO, Tech Centre, Tel Aviv, Mercedes-Benz, and Johanna Weiss, a member of a team promoting diversity in eSports, tell their own success stories in various social media formats.

The company noted that the advancement of women begins with the young generation. It participates in many job and career information days, for example, where girls and young women in particular, gain insights into technical professions.

The Genius educational initiative aims to inspire a passion for natural phenomena, technologies, mobility and digitalisation in female and male pupils alike. In this way, the OEM allows girls to discover their talents in the natural sciences, technology, mobility and digitalisation.

The company also offers a wide range of mentoring programmes for women in management and administration. In addition, international networks of and for women support exchanging ideas and experiences.

The advancement of women is an area of action in the Diversity and Inclusion Management at Mercedes-Benz. The unit’s activities focus mainly on ensuring equal opportunity for all employees.
