Porsche's development driver, Lars Kern, has once again left automotive enthusiasts in awe with the pre-series Taycan setting a blazing lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the iconic Nürburgring-Nordschleife. This official record time is a remarkable 26 seconds faster than Kern's previous record, achieved in a Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sport sedan with the performance package in August 2022.

The achievement places the Taycan in a league comparable to electric hypercars, marking a significant advancement in electric vehicle performance. Kevin Giek, Head of the Taycan model line, expresses the sensation of the feat, stating, 'Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars.'

Lars Kern reflects on the accomplishment, saying, 'I pushed as hard as I could, but that was really all I could do.' The Nürburgring-Nordschleife was exclusively available to Kern for a day of high-speed laps. For safety measures, the pre-series Taycan was equipped with a legally mandated roll cage and racing bucket seats. Compared to the 2022 record in a Taycan Turbo S, the pre-series car demonstrated significantly improved times, reaching a speed that was 25 km/h faster heading into the Schwedenkreuz section.

The distinction becomes more evident as Kern crossed the finish line near Grandstand 13 (T13), with the pre-series Taycan covering a distance more than 1.3 kilometres ahead of the 2022 Turbo S record. This underscores the remarkable leap in performance achieved on the 20.8 km course in Germany’s Eifel region. An on-board video capturing the complete lap is scheduled for release in mid-March, offering enthusiasts a thrilling visual experience of this ground-breaking achievement in electric vehicle performance.
