Jhunjhunwala was undergoing treatment for kidney-related issues and succumbed to an early morning heart attack.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, the ace investor and founder of Akasa Airlines, passed away on August 14, 2022, days after his airline’s maiden flight.

According to Breach Candy Hospital, where he was being treated for multiple health issues, including kidney-related issues, the investor succumbed to a heart attack. 

In his tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted: Rakesh Jhunjhunwala was indomitable. Full of life, witty and insightful, he leaves behind an indelible contribution to the financial world. He was also very passionate about India’s progress. His passing away is saddening. 

Jyotiraditya Scindia, Aviation Minister, Government of India, said, “Rakesh Jhunjhunwala ji was not only an astute businessman, but also passionately invested in India’s growth story. He will be remembered for giving India its new airline Akasa Air after more than a decade.”

Besides being the founder of the newest airlines in India, Jhunjhunwala had also invested in several of Indian brands, including Tata Motors and Autoline Industries, in the automotive field.
