It has taken Suzuki quite a long time to enter the electric scooter market but it looks like that day is going to arrive sometime later this year with the launch of the Access electric scooter. Word is that Suzuki is planning to launch it around the third quarter of 2024.

The e-Access, as it is expected to be called, has been co-developed with Suzuki engineers in Japan. In the past, we’ve seen Suzuki test the e-Burgman in India, however, sources say that it is the e-Access that will debut first. The Suzuki Access 125 petrol powered scooter is a huge hit in the market and Suzuki will be hoping to use its strong brand name to make an entry in the electric scooter space.

We expect both the electric Access and Burgman to be based on the same platform, just like their petrol powered versions. Hence, the time taken between the launches of the electric Access and Burgman should not be too long.

Currently, there are no details on the motor capacity, battery and the range. However, the e-Access is expected to offer similar performance as that of a 125cc scooter. In terms of features, Suzuki won’t offer anything fancy like a TFT display to keep costs in check.

Suzuki is keeping a close eye on Yamaha and Honda as they are also said to be readying their first electric scooters for the Indian market. The company will announce the launch date of the e-Access based on what its rivals launch plans are with regards their products.
