Tata and HPCL Join Forces To Expand Charging Network mobility outlook

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM) has forged a strategic alliance with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). This collaboration aims to establish a robust network of 5,000 vehicle charging stations across the nation by December 2024, marking a significant step towards accelerating India's transition to sustainable mobility.

TPEM and HPCL, with its extensive network of over 21,500 fuel stations, are combining their strengths to facilitate easier access to charging facilities for EV owners. The partnership will leverage HPCL's vast reach and TPEM's in-depth insights from over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads, focusing on setting up charging stations at strategic locations to maximise convenience for EV users. This collaboration not only aims to expand the charging infrastructure but also to enhance the overall user experience, encouraging more individuals to embrace electric mobility.

With TPEM holding a commanding 68% share in the electric passenger vehicle market and HPCL's commitment to sustainability, this partnership is poised to play a pivotal role in India's EV ecosystem. The goal to install 5,000 EV charging stations underscores a shared vision for a cleaner, greener future, addressing key challenges such as range anxiety and infrastructure availability.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at TPEM, emphasised the critical role of accessible and reliable charging infrastructure in mainstreaming EVs in India. He highlighted the synergy between TPEM's EV insights and HPCL's nationwide network as a game-changer in the country's EV landscape.

Similarly, Debashis Chakraverty of HPCL pointed out the strategic advantage of leveraging Tata Motors' significant market presence to identify high-demand locations for charging stations, further easing the transition for potential EV customers.

Global case studies underscore the correlation between charging infrastructure availability and EV adoption rates. This partnership between TPEM and HPCL is expected to not only enhance India's charging network but also serve as a catalyst for the country's EV growth, aligning with global trends and driving India towards a sustainable automotive future.
