June Auto Sales Signify Probable Recovery

The Indian automobile sector has been facing tough times due to CoronaVirus, Russia-Ukraine War and crisis in the components supply chain. The supply of semiconductors has started showing signs of recovery.

Most of the auto OEMs have released the number of sales they did in June 2022. The numbers shared point out towards a possible recovery in the otherwise ailing auto sector of the country.

Notably, the Indian auto sector has been facing tough times due to CoronaVirus, Russia-Ukraine War and crisis in the components supply chain. The supply of semiconductors has  started showing signs of recovery.

How Did PV OEMs Fair

Maruti Suzuki India's wholesale figures increased by 5.7% in June. The OEM registered sales of 155,857 units in the month compared to 147,368 units it had delivered in June 2021.

Tata Motors registered a growth of 87% over June 2021. The OEM sold 45,197 units of PVs in June 2022 against 24,110 PV units in the same month last year. The company was able to sell 3,507 electric PVs during the month.

Hyundai Motor India registered domestic sales of 49,001 units and export sales of 13,350 units with cumulative sales of 62,351 units in June 2022. The OEM had sold 40,496 PVs in June 2021.

Mahindra Auto, recorded a 59% jump in YoY sales as it sold a total of 26,880 passenger vehicles in period under review. The OEM had sold 16,880 during June 2021. The OEM exported 2,777 vehicles during June 2022 as against 2,607 it had exported in June 2021.

Kia India recorded sales of 24,024 units in June 2022, its highest ever monthly sales in the country. The Kia Seltos and Carens lead the sales for the OEM with 8,388 and 7,895 units sold, respectively, followed by Sonet with 7,455 units and Carnival with 285 units.

Honda Cars India registered sales of 7,834 units in June 2022. The export numbers stood at 2,502 units in the month. The company had registered 4,767 units in domestic sales and exported 1,241 units in June 2021.

Skoda Auto, in June 2022, recorded sales of 6,023 vehicles. The OEM was able to sell only 734 vehicles in June 2021. It seems the recently introduced Kushaq and Slavia are doing the magic for the OEM.

MG Motor India registered retail sales of 4,503 units in June 2022, registering a growth of 27% over the corresponding month last year. Hector and ZS EV continue to be OEMs most selling products.

Nissan India, banking on Magnite, was able to wholesale 3,515 units in June 2022 besides exporting 4,497 units.

Two-wheelers Riding Strong

Bajaj Auto, one of the largest two-wheeler OEMs in India, was able to sell 347,004 units in June 2022. There seems no growth for the OEM as it had sold almost the similar number (346,136) in the same month last year.

Total dispatches of Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India registered 67% growth with 383,882 units in June’22 (355,560 domestic and 28,322 exports) compared to 232,497 units in June’21 (212,453 domestic and 20,044 exports).

TVS Motor Company, in the two-wheeler segment grew 23% in June 2022; the sales increased from 238,092 units in June 2021 to 293,715 units in June 2022. The OEMs domestic two-wheeler sales registered growth of 33%, increasing from 145,413 units in June 2021 to 193,090 units in June 2022.

Ather Energy sold 3,231 units in June 2022. The company noted that these numbers showcase a 9X YoY growth.
