The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) announced that it has introduced a microsite called CAREERGUIDE to bridge the current gap between the skills required by the industry and those possessed by the youth in the country.

According to a press release from the organisation, the objective of the microsite is to address the ongoing digital transformation opportunities by offering the necessary guidance to the students and workers, young associates/employees in the automotive sector, thereby further contributing towards the ceaseless innovations in this dynamic industry.

Being the fourth largest globally, the automotive industry is an integral part of the Indian economy, with an annual turnover of $ 100 billion, employing 37 million people that accounts for 7.5% of the country’s GDP. However, the recent development in technology is rapidly changing the face of the industry, and to cope with such a transformation, constant skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling of the existing and future workforce is extremely important.

Arindam Lahiri, CEO, ASDC, said, “There is an entire new range of jobs in the industry that has emerged from the recent digital transformation. However, in order to stay relevant in the constantly evolving automotive sector, one needs to stay on top of the skills game with proper reskilling and up-skilling from time to time. The CAREERGUIDE is intended to deliver strategic benefits to the frontline workforce in the automotive sector and bring them closer to their goals through proper guidance and training.”

Raman K Sharma, Senior Advisor, ASDC, said, “In today’s world of smart manufacturing, AI - connected technologies and even customer-centric operations, the entire automotive supply chain from OEMs to suppliers to dealers will need to upgrade, modify its skills to align it with new disruptive forces. With CAREERGUIDE, we want to help all the candidates in the automotive industry to witness the emergence of new business models, smart technologies, and a future of collaborative work and education”.

In addition, the platform will enable them in exploring the emerging career avenues in the automotive sector, along with available choices of reskilling upskilling and multiskilling in the future. Furthermore, the candidates will be provided with career-related information and job opportunities. Also, it will enable the students and candidates to interact and communicate with ASDC master trainers, who will be responsible for creating an active community of automobile professionals across India.
