FAME II Scheme Supports 92,393 EVs; Offers Demand Incentive Of INR 278 Crore

Under the scheme, the Ministry of Heavy Industry has also sanctioned 2,877 EV charging stations amounting to approximately INR 500 crore in 68 cities across 25 states and union territories.

Until July 29, 2021, the second phase of the FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India) scheme has supported a total of 92,393 electric vehicles by way of demand incentive amounting to about INR 278 crore. 

This was announced by Krishan Pal Gurjar, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries in a written reply to Lok Sabha yesterday.

A total of 6,265 electrical buses have also been sanctioned to various State/City Transport Undertakings under phase-II of the scheme. Further, the ministry has also sanctioned 2,877 EV charging stations amounting to approximately INR 500 crore in 68 cities across 25 states and UTs, said the minister.

It must be noted that the FAME scheme was first announced in 2015 as part of the NEMMP 2020 to promote adoption of electric/ hybrid vehicles (xEVs) in India. A total budgetary allocation of INR 895 crore was made available as part of FAME phase-I, which was available up to March 31, 2019. About 2.8 lakh xEVs were supported with total demand incentives of INR 359 crore in phase-I.

In addition, 425 buses were deployed and 427 charging stations were installed during the first FAME phase. 

The phase-II of the FAME scheme was notified by the Government for a period of three years starting April 1, 2019 with a total budgetary support of INR 10,000 crore. This phase, in addition to creating nationwide charging infrastructure, focuses on supporting electrification of public & shared transportation, and aims to support through demand incentive 7,090 eBuses, 500,000 e3Ws, 55,000 e4W passenger cars and 10 lakh e2Ws.
