Mercedes-Benz Makes Key Management Changes In India, Thailand

Mercedes-Benz India on Monday made some key management changes starting with Santosh Iyer, Vice President- Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India, being elevated as the MD w.e.f January 1, 2023.

A graduate in Commerce from Mumbai University, followed by an MBA from the University of Indianapolis and a Masters in Corporate Governance and Compliance from the University of Lake Konstanz, Germany, Iyer has been associated with Mercedes-Benz India since 2009 and has been in leadership roles across diverse functions including Sales, Marketing, Customer Services, Internal Communications and CRM.

In 2016, he took up the responsibility as Vice President, Customer Services & Retail Training business, an official statement from the company noted.

The statement added that he took over as the Vice President of Sales & Marketing in July 2019, successfully leading Mercedes-Benz’s digital transformation of the business and achieving the highest ever-online sales penetration.

Mercedes-Benz India said, during his tenure heading Sales & Marketing, Iyer laid a strong foundation for Data analytics and pioneered online sales, with its share exceeding 15% of total sales.

Iyer said, “Mercedes-Benz is at the cusp of transitioning to an exciting, electrified future and it is a privilege for me to steer the brand, introduce emerging trends and continue to define new benchmarks for our customers.”

Meanwhile, the current MD of Mercedes-Benz India, Martin Schwenk, is being given a global role as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz Thailand, effective from January 1, 2023.

The carmaker said that under the leadership of Schwenk, Mercedes-Benz India has strengthened its position as the undisputed leader in the luxury car segment in the country, achieving the highest market share.

The release said he has played a key role in preparing Mercedes-Benz India for the future automotive industry transition by driving electrification and digitisation initiatives.

He contributed to formulating the brand’s growth strategy that includes the market introduction of key ICE products, pioneering the luxury EV journey with the EQC, transforming the retail network strategy with MAR 2020 retail format, and successful implementation of the ‘Retail of the Future’ business model in India, the release added.

Schwenk said, “I will personally remember India for the warmth and generosity of the people, our partners and customers.”
