In a move to augment public transportation in Odisha, Volvo Bus India has clinched a significant deal for 122 top-tier luxury coaches. The order is part of the Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI) Scheme, an ambitious programme by the Odisha Government aimed at enhancing rural connectivity through the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC).

Under the LAccMI Scheme, Volvo 9600 Buses will operate as Jagannath Express & Laxmi Express, connecting major districts, business hubs, and cultural landmarks like Jagannath Dham Puri to the State capital, Bhubaneswar. These multi-axle 15m coaches will have of pushback luxury seater, semi-sleeper, and sleeper configurations, providing a world-class travel experience.

Vinod Aggarwal, MD and CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles, said, 'This order further solidifies our commitment to the citizens of Odisha.'

MD of OSRTC, Diptesh Kumar Pattnayak, emphasised the collaboration's impact on creating a modern, efficient, and sustainable public transportation network, contributing to socio-economic development in rural and urban areas.

Suresh Chettiar, Senior Vice President, Volvo Bus India, highlighted the buses' contribution to enhancing Odisha's public transportation system and catering to both Indian and international tourists. He noted that the buses are made in India at the Volvo Bus India facility in Hosakote, Bangalore.
