Tata Motors Electrifies Bengaluru's Public Transport With 100 Starbus EVs

Tata Motors Bengaluru 100 Starbus EVs mobility outlook

Tata Motors has propelled Bengaluru's shift towards electric public transport by delivering 100 advanced Starbus Electric Vehicles (EVs) to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

This milestone is part of a broader agreement between TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd, a Tata Motors subsidiary, and BMTC for the supply, operation, and maintenance of 921 state-of-the-art 12-metre low-floor electric buses over a 12-year period.

Tata Motors' Starbus EV, an indigenous innovation, has officially joined BMTC's fleet, introducing superior design and best-in-class features for a sustainable and comfortable commuting experience. Aligned with the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, these zero-emission electric buses operate on a next-gen architecture, powered by advanced battery systems for a safe, convenient, and eco-friendly intra-city commute across Bengaluru.

The inauguration of Tata Motors' smart electric bus was led by Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, among other dignitaries. The event marked the beginning of a significant initiative that aligns with environmental sustainability goals and enhances the quality of public transportation in the city.

G Sathyavathi, IAS, Managing Director, BMTC, stated, 'We are delighted to induct Tata Motors’ state-of-the-art buses after successful completion of prototype trials of Tata’s electric buses within the city.”

Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, CEO and MD, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, said, “We are elated to witness our top-of-the-line Starbus EVs inducted in BMTC’s fleet. Tata Motors has supplied over 1,500 electric buses across various Indian cities, accumulating more than 10 crore kilometres with an uptime exceeding 95%.
