Tata Passenger Electric Mobility & Shell Forge Partnership mobility outlook

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM) has teamed up with Shell India Markets Private Limited (SIMPL) through a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding. This partnership aims to establish an extensive network of public charging stations across India, leveraging Shell's robust fuel station network and TPEM's comprehensive understanding of the Indian EV landscape.

This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in India's EV sector, combining TPEM's leadership in electric passenger vehicles with Shell's global expertise in energy and retail. The initiative will focus on strategically placing chargers at locations frequently visited by Tata EV owners, significantly enhancing the charging experience and accessibility for EV users nationwide. These initiatives are designed to simplify the EV charging process, making it as seamless as refuelling at a traditional petrol station.

TPEM has been at the forefront of India's electric mobility shift, holding a commanding 71% market share in the electric passenger vehicle segment. The company's commitment to expanding the EV ecosystem is evident through its initiatives ranging from opening India's first EV-exclusive store to collaborating with charge point operators to bolster the national charging network.

Shell's EV Recharge stations are known for their reliability and ultra-fast charging capabilities, boasting an impressive 98%-99% charger uptime. In addition to offering sustainable charging solutions powered by 100% certified renewable sources, Shell's stations provide a comfortable and convenient retail experience, adding significant value to the customer's charging journey.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at TPEM, emphasised the importance of this collaboration in fostering the EV ecosystem's growth in India, highlighting the synergy between TPEM's market insights and Shell's customer experience excellence.

Similarly, Sanjay Varkey, Director at Shell India, underscored Shell's dedication to redefining the EV charging experience through integrated, customer-focused solutions, stressing the role of this partnership in accelerating India's transition to electric mobility.

Global case studies indicate a strong correlation between charging infrastructure availability and EV adoption rates. This partnership between TPEM and Shell is poised to catalyse India's EV adoption, aligning with the country's sustainability goals and the global shift towards cleaner, greener transportation solutions.
